⁣Whatever they want to call it – what a pus producer! Oozing, flowing, then some really thick, yellow “from-the-depths” pustulance. You can see the tiny hole above where the pus is exuding – making one think it might be a pre-auricular cyst with fistula tract. Ach, painful and infected, that is for sure, but well done on draining.

Dr Khaled Sadek removes a deep back head on the back which has been there for many years. These are common and are known commonly on the face and back. They are removed from our cyst removal clinic in London.

An epidermoid cyst is a non-cancerous growth commonly found on the skin of the face or neck, but can occur anywhere on the body. Just as its name suggests, these cysts occur as a result of epidermal cells, cells from the top layer of your skin a.k.a the epidermis, overgrow in a confined space. The buildup of these cells under the skin results in a “cheesy” consistency and often a pungent odor! Epidermoid cysts are typically harmless and have no symptoms, but people often seek removal due to the appearance of the bump or because the cyst has become inflamed or ruptured. If you have a ruptured cyst you may notice, sudden redness, pain, swelling, and heat around the area, all of which can lead to an abscess forming. Surgically removing the cyst can cure the area, but the entire cyst sac and all of its contents need to be removed to ensure the cyst won’t grow back!

Christmas doesn't come every day!!This gentleman came to see me just a couple weeks ago, referred by a internist because he has a skin cancer, a basal cell carcinoma, on his chest that he needs to have removed completely. He is quite a character, and I couldn't help but notice that he has a lot of sun damage, and many comedones (blackheads and whiteheads). He used to be a fireman (I think in Indiana), one of his many jobs in his life, and he was raised on a farm. The years of sun exposure and also exposure to soot from fires, have likely caused him to develop quite a few blackheads and whiteheads. He doesn't like them, and has tried to squeeze them out, but hasn't even very successful.As we were finishing up our visit, I decided I would ask him whether he knew he had a lot of blackheads on his face, and whether he would like me to remove them? His response was great: "I would walk through a wall of fire if you could do that for me!" Always amazes me how interested my patients are in me getting rid of such things. Makes it all worthwhile! I realize I didn't extract all of his blackheads, but he is a work in progress! We will be seeing him at least two more times and will do further blackhead extractions.
