As we can see in the video, the lady has been carrying around her sebaceous cyst since approx. 3 years. She did opt for other remedies & tried to get it corrected, squeezed it, applied ointments etc but it seems to keep coming back, it never got recuperated fully.

She finally sought an opinion from Dr. Prashant Yadav at Dezire Clininc who recommended a minimally invasive cyst removal surgery. During the painless surgery which was performed by giving local anesthesia, when a small puncture hole was made to remove the cyst it was found out that the cyst was infected. Because of being in a state of infection it was not healing properly & kept coming back. The infected part along with the entire cyst has been removed & proper cleaning has been done with disinfectants & antiseptic medicines to ensure that the cyst never recurs/develops again.

Let us try to understand this procedure & find out everything that we need to know about a sebaceous cyst; its remedy, recovery and healing below...

A sebaceous cyst is a thin walled, hollow cavity which contains a liquid substance that is secreted by the sebaceous glands. Now sebaceous glands are the glands which are situated within the skin & secrete an oily substance onto the skin which moisturizes our skin & hair.


Occurrence:-
A Sebaceous cyst can develop on any part of the body but it predominantly occurs on the neck, face, chest, trunk, thighs. All human beings can develop a sebaceous cyst on any part of the body, but generally males are found to be more prone to them.

Cause:-
These cysts develop due to the secretion of a liquid, sometimes semi-liquid substance by the sebaceous glands called sebum.
A sebaceous cyst can be formed if a hair follicle gets uprooted from the skin. It starts with a seemingly harmless swelling which gradually develops into a lump over a period of time due to negligence.

Sebaceous cyst removal procedure:-
The skin region from where the cyst development starts is marked. The material accumulated within this marked region needs to be snipped out. Local anaesthesia is given. Incision is made carefully. Material that is accrued inside is removed. Incision is closed meticulously.

Duration of the surgery?
It can be completed within one hour.

Scars after surgery?
Initially there could be a minor scar which will fade with time.



Side-effects?
There are no allergies or side effects reported. It is considered to be a very minor & risk free surgery. The incision that is closed needs to be taken care of till it heals & dries up completely.


After surgery?
Antiseptic ointments, antibiotics may be provided. This is a walk-in, walk-out kind of surgery where the individual can leave the clinic after the surgery once proper dressing up of the incision site has been done. Absolutely no overnight stay or admission in a hospital/clinic is required.

Time required for complete recovery?
The incision site/wound heals or dries up completely within 2-3 weeks.
